I've never been big on following the Christian calendar. Not that I trivialize its role in people's faith, but I guess it just hasn't been part of my church culture growing up. But over the last few years, I've come to at least acknowledge, the comings and goings of important markers in the life of the Church.
As such, Advent is among us! More than just a reminder that we have 4 weeks until our next work holiday, Advent is all about eager anticipation of the coming. I've often heard people compare the waiting and preparation of the advent season to a woman expecting a baby - pregnant with hope, the coming of peace and joy from the womb of the infinite source of life, to proclaim the end of the world? to proclaim the end of a world.
